Sleep Apnea Treatment

Restful sleep is essential for our health and quality of life. Modern technology, work stress, and busy family schedules can make it challenging to get the reparative sleep we need to have a healthy, functioning body and brain.

According to American Sleep Apnea Association data, one in four Americans are sleep-deprived half the time. One of the reasons people may be missing out on sleep is due to a condition called sleep apnea. Snoring and waking up multiple times during a sleeping period can indicate this harmful but preventable condition.

Without restful sleep, our bodies and mental wellness can suffer. It allows us to recharge, stave off diseases, and promote proper brain function. When we don't get healthy sleep, we can experience slowed speech and movement, stunted emotional responses, impaired memory, drowsy driving, and more.

At Blue Sky Dental, we can help you finally get the restful sleep you need to have a healthy, happy life. Dr. Corey W. Woods and our team are experts in sleep dentistry and can offer you personalized treatment to manage your sleep apnea.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a disorder that occurs when your breathing stops and starts multiple times during sleep. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to numerous health issues, including heart attack, stroke, hypertension, obesity, and more.

There are three types of sleep apnea:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) – occurs when anatomical features disrupt airflow or block the upper airway, such as enlarged tonsils, elongated soft palate, enlarged turbinates, and adenoids
  • Central sleep apnea (CSA) – occurs when the brain doesn't send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
  • Complex sleep apnea syndrome (CSAS) – a combination of OSA and CSA

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form, and it can affect people of all ages, including children.

Personalized Treatment for Sleep Apnea in Albuquerque, NM

Your dentist can help you determine if you have sleep apnea and offer comfortable and effective treatment customized to your unique needs.

Though continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, many patients prefer other treatments that are quiet, portable, and less disruptive.

At Blue Sky Dental, Dr. Corey Woods and our team offer custom-made oral splints and devices to reposition the jaws and open the airway comfortably. When the airway is open, enough oxygen passes through, and you can have uninterrupted breathing and more restful sleep.
