CEREC Same-Visit Crowns and Bridges
At Blue Sky Dental, Dr. Corey Woods provides solutions for patients who want to improve their oral health and enhance their smiles through dentistry.
For some of our patients, that means restoring comfort and chewing function with dental crowns, while others may need a dental bridge to replace missing teeth.
Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers in Just One Appointment
The one thing both these tooth restorations have in common is that, in many cases, we can design, fabricate, and place them on your tooth during a single appointment. Our patients appreciate that with CEREC same-visit technology, they don’t have to worry about multiple appointments, messy impressions, or temporary dental work.
First, let’s take a quick look at how each tooth restoration works and why our dentist recommends them.
Dental Crowns Protect Teeth
Sometimes patients come to us with a broken tooth or a cavity that is too large to repair with a filling. In this case, Dr. Woods would likely recommend a porcelain dental crown, also referred to as a "cap," to strengthen and protect it.
Once we place the final dental crown on your tooth, it will blend perfectly with your smile. The crown creates a sturdy new surface, protects the tooth from further damage, and allows you to chew fully on it again.
Our dentist might also recommend a dental crown to protect a tooth after a root canal and restore function and appearance to a dental implant.
Dental Bridges Replace Missing Teeth
Missing teeth are all too common, but today there are many modern tooth replacements, including dental bridges. A bridge replaces one or two missing teeth by placing an artificial tooth in the gap and securing it to adjacent teeth with dental crowns.
The Process for Getting CEREC Crowns and Bridges
CEREC is the acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it means that we don’t need to use an outside dental lab to prepare your restorations. Instead of waiting the usual 2-3 weeks to get a new crown or bridge, our CEREC dentist complete the entire procedure in a single appointment at our Albuquerque dental office.
First, Dr. Woods prepares the tooth or teeth he’s treating by removing a layer of enamel from the surface. Next, he takes comfortable digital impressions using a handheld scanner that doesn’t require any messy paste.
Using CAD/CAM technology, our dentist designs your new restoration in specialized software that renders a 3-D image of your tooth and the restoration. This gives us much more control over the design and fabrication process to ensure that we achieve the best results.
The design is then sent to specialized 3-D fabrication equipment in our office that mills your crown, bridge, or veneer out of a block of porcelain. When the restoration’s finished, our dentist adjusts it for fit, polishes it, and cements it securely on your tooth.
